A well-deserved honor

Former EBSC coach Bob Bigos, well known in East Brunswick and Central Jersey as one of the area’s best referees, was recently honored by New Jersey Youth Soccer as the recipient of the "Liesel Krehan Volunteer of the Year" award. The late Ms. Liesel was very active in the Clark Soccer Club and in NJYS.

Bob has been the head of the delegation for the New Jersey referees at the Annual ODP and Region 1 Championship Tournaments. In this role, he has had responsibility for communicating tournament rules to all referees, assisting with scheduling and transportation of referees and mentoring some of the younger referees. He has also taken it upon himself to take pictures of all of the New Jersey referees when they are on the field as both referee and assistant referee and then burn the pictures on CDs for the referees. "Best of all," Bob says, "my involvement with the New Jersey referees delegation has given me the opportunity to spend time with some great, young referees. I think I learn as much from them as I hope they do from me."

And if that wasn’t enough, at the dinner at which Bob received this prestigious award he also won a special door prize: a signed print from the Ironmen’s first home game and their guest captain, the incomparable Pele.
